The cabin was clean and comfortable. However, I would change the double bed in the main floor bedroom to a queen. That bed on the main floor wasn't very comfortable for two of us so we ended up having to sleep upstairs the other nights,.. there is no bathroom up there so we went up and down the stairs all night. The kitchen have plenty of glasses and cookware. Plenty of fans to move the air around . We were a short walk to a private beach which was very nice. The cabin is about 5 miles north of downtown Northport which was fine with us.

We really enjoyed ourselves and I would recommend this place to anyone.

The rental company was terrific, would definitely use them again. The house was ok, not spectacular. It got very, very hot during the day (in August). Uppermost loft is unsafe. The water definitely smells like rotten eggs. So glad we read reviews and purchased bottled water for drinking. Only one bathroom was a bit of a stretch for 7 of us (2 adults, 5 kids). It could stand a bit of an update in decorating. That being said, it was charming in its own way, nice location, clean. We enjoyed the fire pit for smores. No problems with internet. Loved the town of Northport. Cute beach and playground, some good spots to eat.

We had four adults, three kids, and an infant, and had a wonderful time at the Cherry Retreat! We utilized the grill for our nightly meals and bonfire pit for after dinner and s'mores. I would suggest that chairs are added to the back deck to provide further seating for eating and nighttime. The cabin itself was fantastic - lots of character, space, and coziness. We loved the three levels and overall A-frame architecture.

I had read previous reviews regarding the "yellow" water, for which I was grateful, and we brought our own water (for baby's bottle, coffee, drinking). Other than the water, everything was perfect!

Renters must go to the CHA clubhouse for beach access, which is about a mile down the road. We tried to access the water across the street via the vacant lot and were told by homeowners next door that "you renters need to go to the clubhouse!" The Clubhouse area is nice, it has a tennis court, swing sets, and a little sandy beach, which is just fine.

We have rented with VisitUpNorth for several years and have always found them to be friendly, professional, and always at your service. We love Leelanau Peninsula and will definitely be back again, either at this rental or another through VisitUpNorth.

    Hi

Cabin was very good and rustic feel.
We liked the old cassettes audio and video provided.

What really need to change is that the kitchen utensils etc need to be thoroughly washed , they have a very strange sticky feel and look very old. probably you can install a dish washer.

It was a nice place and a very quiet area within a couple miles of the tip of the peninsula. The major downsides were 1) there was no direct access to Lake Michigan within walking distance. The lake was literally right across the street, but all of the coast was private access. 2) it took about an hour to get to Traverse City. That may not be a problem if you don't care about it but don't plan to go back and forth during the day a lot.

a guest from Bossier City, LA recommends this vacation rental

Very peaceful and quiet neighborhood. Although not directly on the Lake, I could hear the waves across the road every night. It is nice to visit the more crowded areas of Traverse City, Empire, and Suttons Bay and then come back to the cabin which is so quiet, tucked away, and peaceful. My recommendations would be to pack enough outfits to wear every day. There is no washer and dryer available to renters. Although I did notice a laundry-mat 15-20 minutes away in Sutton's Bay. There are bugs that get inside the cabin. Fruit flies, flies, and other winged insects just be prepared and expect it (there are a lot of orchards/vineyards in the area that attract them.) BRING BOTTLED WATER/Gallons of water for drinking and if you enjoy coffee every morning. There is a water filter but it was easier for us to just used bottled water for drinking.

I would come back to this same cabin again, but not in the summer. I think it may be a better investment to save a bit more to afford one of the cabins directly on Lake Michigan across that same road. Perhaps in the fall when the summer season prices have dropped, I would rent the same cabin again. I am sure that the view would be spectacular. There are also a lot of activities in the area during autumn.

The Cherry Retreat provides a unique and cozy cabin experience. The house was well stocked with more than enough linens and towels for 7 of us to stay 3 nights. The kitchen has every imaginable utensil and plenty of plates, mugs, etc. The kids fought for the privilege of sleeping in the third floor loft on the first night of our stay. A few things to keep in mind, however: 1) Plan on at least an hour driving time to Traverse City and at least 1.5 hours to Sleeping Bear Dunes. We did not mind the scenic drive along the Lake and through small towns with lots to do along the way! 2)This cabin is not walking distance from any public swimming beach as far as we could tell. 3) Neither of our devices could connect to the wifi. We had hoped to use the internet to plan our activities for the day, so this was a bit of an inconvenience. The staff at the Visit Up North office were all very helpful in their attempt to resolve the issue. They were incredibly friendly and offered many great suggestions for recreation during our stay! 4)When we arrived on the first day, we were overwhelmed by the smell of mothballs. By the third night of our stay the smell had finally worn off, which is precisely when the huge winged ants and other critters began literally crawling out of the woodwork. In the middle of our third and final night we all woke up with these ant in our beds. This may just be unavoidable in this region of Michigan. Overall, would we prefer this place to a hotel? DEFINITELY!

Drove to Northport during the polar vortex. Cold vacation! However, accommodations were very good. Both indoor and outdoor fireplaces were used. There is a musty smell to the cabin that clears up the moment the windows are open - really wasn't an issue. There is a 3rd floor loft with a bed. Be aware that you have to climb a ladder to get to it. Great hiding place for energetic kids! If you are looking for a quiet and scenic getaway this is a great rental. All appliances worked great. Internet and TV worked fine as well.

My husband and I, with our 2 adult children (and one partner) used Cherry Retreat as our "home base" while attending a destination wedding nearby.
Positives: very cool A-frame architecture; loved the wood walls etc; the 2 & 1/2 bedrooms worked well for our party of 5 adults (2 couples & one single); well-equipped cabin (everything worked); lovely clean bedding; comfy (homey) furniture; great selection of books and DVD's; quiet private neighborhood.
Negatives: strong, sulfur odor (from the water) filled the cabin,(this dissipated when windows were open); scary-steep stairs to loft; too many knik-naks & dried-flower arrangements for my taste.
Over-all we were extremely satisfied with this cabin and property management company.

The property is in good shape and has a very 'adirondack' feel to it. The canoe hanging from the ceiling is awesome. Everything was clean and works fine - wyfi, kitchen, TV. However, it's very hard to cool in the summertime - it was in the 80's or 90's in the in my visit in the summer of 2012. It's near the lake, but you really can't enjoy it without driving somewhere. This is 10-15 minutes north of Northport, so to get anywhere, plan on doing a lot of driving.

This home is in a wonderful location in a quiet subdivision right across the street from Grand Traverse Bay. The subdivision has a common beach and playground area which our grandchildren really enjoyed. The house itself is very nice. The stairs to the
upstairs bedrooms are steep, but manageable. The house is stocked with everything you could possibly need, including a large selection of books and movies. At night, it seems like you are alone, so this would be a great couples retreat spot. The beds are comfortable,
the front porch is a great spot to sit in the Adirondack chairs and watch the sunrise while sipping coffee. The residents of the area are very friendly. We saw deer just down the street and even picked wild blackberries with our grandchildren. The only negative
we encountered was the fact that the well water has a strong odor and taste, but there is a water filter for drinking water at the kitchen sink. Altogether, we had an excellent experience in a very reasonably priced vacation rental.

Our first 2 nights were hotter than we expected for northern MI. Fortunately we found a fan for Mom, who was downstairs, and we slept relatively comfortably upstairs. It was too humid to enjoy the deck, which was disappointing, since the meteor showers were supposed to be at their peak. Our last day was delightful! We'd go again in cooler weather. The kitchen was well stocked and linens, etc. were clean. It was quite cozy and homey.

We were looking for a place that we could easily do everything or nothing at all, depending on what we felt like that day. This was a perfect place- on a gray rainy day, we curled up on the furniture and read some of the many books, on sunny days, we ventured into Northport or suttons bay. Everything was clean and neat, the kitchen had every utensil you could need. We did have an issue with a changed lockbox code when we arrived, but the issue was resolved promptly with courtesy and actual compassion. Well done.
